The Yum Factor

Food… I love it.

My passion for food explains a lot about me: my absurdly large cookbook collection, plus the amount of time I’ll happily spend in the kitchen. It’s all in pursuit of what I like to call “the yum factor”.

Continuing on with my domestic porn obsession, and my promise from the last post, here is one cookbook that  I never want to do without.

Everyone? Meet Janet and Greta, authors of “The Looneyspoons Collection”, a veritable treasure trove of scrumptious recipes, with plenty of corny jokes and cartoons along the way. These nutrition divas create healthy food you cannot wait to eat! Butter chicken, pizza, and even cinnamon buns… you name it.

Here’s one of our favourite recipes from the book, just to whet your appetite.

Stick’em Up! Shrimp Skewers

1/3 cup fresh basil

2 tbsp lemon juice

1 Tbsp  each olive oil, mustard and honey

2 tsp each garlic (we use more!), grated ginger root, and lemon zest

1 tsp balsamic vinegar

1/2 tsp salt

1/4 tsp pepper

2 lbs shrimp

Toss all ingredients together. Marinate for an hour. Thread the shrimp onto skewers and either grill or broil, two minutes per side.

Mmmmm, lemon basil shrimp… serious yum factor in every bite!

How about you? What are recipes do you love to whip up? What dish makes your family cheer? Leave a comment below. After all, I’m always on the hunt for more delicious recipes.

Until Thursday, may your kitchen be a happy place with lots of yum factor to spare. Keep on reading and discovering everybody!

P.S. Aren’t the pictures amazing today?! Thanks to Bumbershoot Photography, the new official photographer of the Bookaneer! Permalink is pending, once my sorry tech skills are brought up to snuff.
