Rain Dreams: Bring it on Spring!

Rain house Eva painting
Illustrations by Eva.

Spring, so the calendar tells me, is here. Although it is undeniably warmer I am still hungry for what I love about this season: green shoots poking up in the garden, buds about to pop on the trees… but to make that happen, we need rain. I keep anxiously scanning the clouds, hoping for a deluge. Heck, I’d settle for a light sprinkling of rain by this point.  When you live on the Canadian prairies, a semi-arid climate, rain can feel well nigh miraculous. Especially after winter.

Truth be told, right now all I want is for a good downpour. Not everyone would enjoy that, but in my opinion, it would be perfect for it to begin…

Raining Cats and Dogsstormcat eva painting

“It’s raining cats and dogs out there!”

I heard my father call.

So I ran and looked to see the sight

But saw no dogs at all!

The only cat I saw was ours

Getting miserably wet;

Scratching madly to get in,

She was a desperate pet.

It wasn’t raining cats and dogs!

My father is so dense.

It was only raining raindrops-

My father makes no sense.

  1. Oh man those illustrations are gorgeous!!! I also love the poem, I think this is one of my favourites so far (it might be because I’m a sucker for cats and dogs, haha).

I’d like to officially enter your giveaway. It may be greedy of me, but my sister’s birthday is coming up and she would DIE for this. So I want it. I want it bad 😀

  2. I love the poem. I read it to my kids and showed the beautiful illustrations. We love the great combo you two make. Please, please, please make a book of poetry. I need you on my bookshelf.
